Story time, you say? Why, LET’S!
So your girl has picked up new wheels – one of the acquisitions I’ve been most keen to acquire – & she is BAD. ASS. The infamous Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara.
I came up with 3 name options which were Dollar Belle(play on Dolla Bill), Poison Ivy & Yoshi.
Loved Poison Ivy. It was winning. Yoshi was super dope too but not fun-girl enough for me so my niece Makinley said “name her Yoshi Doll, then!” Mmk, PERIODT! 😎😍❤️
So let’s take it back. Lately, I can’t much be bothered to shop hard or haggle. It gets overwhelming fast bc I can see something rated 4.5 out of 5 stars and I will still click the reviews and read the most negative ones first then end up with nothing after wasting literal DAYS.
I currently don’t even have a pressure cooker for this reason after my last one finally went kaput & I recently took wayyy too long finding a new office chair.
I got tired of looking for dealerships with Jeeps that had the specs I wanted and decided to get one custom made but was in for a rude awakening when I was told they’re no longer taking custom orders for 2023s and are now doing 2024s.
I obviously looked up the 2024s and not sure how I feel about the new grill.
It could grow on me but not only would it have had to, I wanted, & frankly needed, something RIGHT NOW.
I still haven’t even seen the ‘24 Saharas, only the Rubicons.
So quick 180 back to searching online for one already made.
I ended up finding one in Sandusky, OH. The key things it needed to have for me in order of importance was a
- green exterior
- matching body-color 3-pc hardtop
- brown/tan leather seats
- cold weather group(heated seats/steering wheel & remote start)
- side steps(maybe)
I didn’t care about:
- Sky 1-Touch… but am completely obsessed with it now
- Safety Group(blind spot/cross- path detection & etc)
- LED Lighting Group… but HONEY!
- Premium Audio Group.. but this heaux is BEATING
& YET my baby ended up being loaded AF with ALL of the above and more.
So I decided “phuck yes”, pushed go & paid them an extra $900 to ship it to Mississippi.
What would follow ended up being a test on my patience but to keep this positive I won’t get too deep into that.
I have 2 uncles that live in Toledo, OH which is about 2hrs from Sandusky so I called my Uncle Reginald(Rick) Wright and he was like “baby all you gotta do is say the word, I’ll go back to get it ASAP AND I’ll drive it down there to you”.
But I wasted more time trying to give the dealership a chance esp bc I didn’t want the unnecessary mileage put on it.
But Tues 5/23 after more days had passed & another “Mike is out of the office today but I’ll see can he schedule the shipment when he returns” I was over it.
Patience is not my strong suit and I could feel my “understanding” dangling by a thin thread.
By that time my uncle had made plans to go to Austin, TX this weekend to visit his sons so while he couldn’t drive it home for me anymore he still was adamant about going to pick it up so they could stop playing in my face.
He had already driven 2hrs over there before a cpl weeks earlier to lay eyes on it for me. Before he went, he’d already planned to go in on them about something he peeped & just wanted the go-ahead from me. I was like yeah you can call it out but I doubt they’ll feel the need to negotiate bc they already know I’m getting it. 😅
I fully expected him to call back ripping the Jeep & the dealership a new asshole but this is how the convo went 😂:
So I basically told the dealership “nah, I WILL have my ride this weekend so my uncle will be back in the morning to pick it up” and I booked my flight the same day.
Unc stood on BUSINESS, was there first thing Wed morning with my other uncle to drive it back to his house and I was on a plane Thursday morning to bring it home.
Both of my uncles picked me up in Detroit which is like 45 mins from Toledo.
These guys had me crying laughing bc they couldn’t find me at ground transportation and circled around the same wrong place like 4 or 5 times! 😅
Oddly enough my Uncle Joe was with me when I got my first Jeep in Toledo.
All I can say about my folks is they are THE BEST & you are gonna crack tf up the whole time bc we come with a whole lot of love and a whole lot of sh!t to talk lol!
Over the years, when I sang “came up, that’s all me, stayed true that’s all me”, I always tried not to sing the “no help that’s all me” part. 😅 NOBODY in this life can get through it without some form of an assist. NOBODY.
My family HAS & ALWAYS WILL step for me, on my mom’s side & my dad’s side.
Scrolling down my texts, I always notice 95% of my messages are to/from family.
& not just my immediate family like my sisters but aunts, uncles, cousins, 2nd cousins… the village is lit, baby.
The first Jeep I purchased was Feb 2015. It was a black Jeep Patriot that wasn’t on my radar but really ended up being my little baby.(pictured below)
But it really was a little baby lol! I think I was taller than it was.
I picked up Yoshi Doll in Toledo Thursday attempted to take a nap and only slept about 30-40 minutes and got on the road around 9p to drive 11hrs home. INSANE I KNOW.
My brother-in-law Sandy said “man, you got a REAL Jeep this time & we all died! He said “yeah that 4-wheel drive makes it official” 😭😂
The way I surprised my sister, Ta, was funny. When I made it back into town, I met with my sister Tiffany at the dentist. My niece wanted to come with me so we called and told Ta we were being dropped off at the restaurant she was at so we went in, sat and had drinks. Ya know, kept it casual.. biz per ush.
When we walked out, we acted like we were walking to her car but kept going to mine.
She was like “wait, where the hell yall going?!”
I casually opened the Jeep door & the way her mouth dropped open was priceless! 😂
So anyway, I love the upgrade and it was worth the drama! I decided I am exactly that every once in awhile recalling how I powered through Walmart like a crazy person 20 mins before closing time to buy some last minute things in mix-matched socks, turquoise dragon egg slides, one phone on my ear while arguing & troubleshooting with a rep about my phone which decided not work mere HOURS before my flight.
Me & my MVPs got it done, though! Skrt Skrt 💨
